Bill Nye the Labo Guy

Nintendo partnered with Bill Nye for a great promotional video showcasing the Nintendo Labo to celebrate its release.

Over the years Nintendo has had a difficult time with messaging. The Wii U was one of the worst offenders in this case, with Nintendo never quite explaining why we needed a tablet controller. With the Switch, Nintendo has managed to turn that around and have a very clear and concise message behind all of their recent releases.

Nintendo Labo continues this trend. This strange DIY crafting game was certainly confusing at first, but by the time their initial announcement video was complete, it was easy to see Nintendo had a real winner on their hands.

Now with the release of the Labo Nintendo has put out a great new video showcasing all of it’s benefits. Choosing Bill Nye, popular scientist and science communicator was a brilliant move for their advertisement.

In the video Bill Nye is seen with a few of the Labo projects and we watch as he learns how to construct and play with them. It’s an engaging and wonderful video that clearly explains what the Labo experience is like.

If you’re on the fence about Nintendo Labo, have a child, or just like to tinker, I highly recommend you take a moment and check out this fun and instructive demo.

The Darwin Project is now Free to Play

Arena based combat game The Darwin Project is now Free to Play. The announcement came today on their steam page and Twitch.tv live stream.

The game while in early access has yet to build a large base of players and was already seeing a drop-off. With Battle Royal games like Fortnite and now Radical Heights also being Free to Play it’s easy to understand why The Darwin Project would follow suit.

Unlike typical Battle Royal games, The Darwin Project takes more cues from the Hunger Games than just the simple last man standing concept. Instead of 100 players, the game has 10. The other major differences are the unique director role. The director is meant to be the announcer of the game and can manipulate elements within the arena such as healing players and altering the environment.

They also announced and showed off a new glider item which looks reminiscent of the glider in Breath of The Wild. With hundreds of new cosmetics and a F2P model, we expect to see a major uptick in players. The Darwin project is currently available for early access on Steam and Xbox One, with the free to play update arriving shortly.

Victoria Mahoney Announced As Second Unit Director For Star Wars Ep IX

Just moments ago Director Ava DuVernay revealed an amazing bit of info about Star Wars. On her twitter, she announced that Victoria Mahoney will be the second Unit Director for Star Wars Ep IX. She will be working with Director J.J. Abrams in creating the final chapter in the Star Wars saga.

Here’s the original tweet.

Victoria then followed up in response with the following

This is an incredible and welcome announcement. Recently Star Wars has come under fire for its lack of representation in lead production roles such as writing and directing.

Ava DuVernay was previously rumored to be someone Disney wanted for Star Wars, which she has publically stated she was not interested in working on. It’s great to see her celebrate this moment with Victoria for women, specifically women of color who are underrepresented in the film industry.

Although Victoria Mahoney is not the main Director she will get to make her mark on the film. Bringing in herexperience e from projects like Greys Anatomy she will be given space to make her own impact on the shots she is responsible for.

This is great news all around, especially for women of color in film and everyone should celebrate this decision.
